Research Project

Smarter Transport in Møre and Romsdal County, Norway

Through the 'Smarter Transport' project, the Møre og Romsdal county municipality, along with several collaboration partners, has laid a solid foundation for how we, in the future, can have autonomous vessels for passenger transport on the sea in urban areas.

A system for collective sea transport solutions:

- Autonomous passenger boats operating in cities

- Intelligent control systems and sailing frequencies/patterns

- Land-based infrastructure with control, charging, and filling functions

- Adaptation and testing in the Ålesund region and in Kristiansund

The goals for the project include:

- Using the waterways as a relief to the road network

- Contribute to a forward-looking and flexible public transport offer in cities

- Provide better oversight, mobility, and user-friendliness for public transport users

- Promote business and knowledge development"

This project is conducted in Norway and all reports are in Norwegian.
