Project background
DRAMMEN
A city that represents both the challenges and the potential in a good way is Drammen and Lier, hereinafter referred to as the Drammen region.
The starting point for the Drammen region is that road traffic accounts for 49% of emissions, with 64% from passenger cars (Drammen.Kommune.no, 2023). According to current initiatives and plans, not only will Drammen continue to be one of the fastest-growing city regions in Norway. Ongoing development suggests that Drammen and Lier together will become a completely new river and fjord city with several large commercial and residential areas around the entire fjord basin and along the central part of the river. The combination of river and fjord means that the new areas with a ferry connection will be able to bind the region together and connect directly into the city core with public transport hubs, shopping centers, university, and public services. Public companies and municipal administration are involved in several of these development projects. Drammen Hospital, Drammen Health Park, and Fjordbyen are in an extension of each other and will create a completely new district at the innermost part of the fjord with homes for 16,000 people and jobs for as many. In continuation of this, there are larger housing development projects along the coast both in Lier and Drammen municipality. Current plans in Lier and Drammen, which will greatly benefit from a ferry service, comprise approximately 17,000 homes (Fjordbyen.no, 2023).
- All our properties are located along the waterfront. Everyone enjoys being near or on the water. Drammen is compact, but not everyone walks the same distance. The city boat will be experienced as much more convenient and elegant for most people than walking to the nearest bus stop. Both employees and, especially, residents will enjoy life in Drammen even more if we make use of the waterway. This will be the most significant urban development move that Drammen has made since we revitalized the river promenades at the turn of the millennium.
